Have you ever searched online and in stores to buy an authentic looking Hogwarts blazer? probably not, unless you REALLY wanted one. But if you’re like me and think that the nostalgia of having a very “real” looking Hogwarts blazer would make you believe you actually attend the great school of witchcraft and wizardry, then this post is for you.
I’ve searched the deep depths of the internet and have yet to find any blazer that looks legitimately real, to my liking. So this past October I set out to find the materials to “make” my very own one.
For starters, I needed a blazer. I could’ve made it easy and just bought a real school girl uniform blazer. But school uniform companies make their blazers a bit loose and boxy. They don’t want to show off a girls curves too much because that wouldn’t be school appropriate, now would it? With my luck, I found a blazer at a Tommy Hilfiger store at the mall. It fit perfectly on me and I fell in love.
This blazer came with a Tommy Hilfiger patch already sewn on it. So if your blazer comes with a former patch, just carefully remove it with a seam ripper.
Now the buttons are up to your liking. I really wanted gold buttons to give my blazer a more classy look. I already had in mind that I would switch out whatever buttons my blazer came with, for pretty gold ones instead. But I was in luck again; my Tommy Hilfiger blazer came with gold buttons with the letter “H” inscribed on them! How perfect was that?! H for Hogwarts!
Back to the patch. You can find a Hogwarts patch online or at a novelty store. This was the easiest part. I found my patch on Amazon.com here: List of patches
You can sew the patch either by hand or by machine. Which ever is easiest for you. I sewed mine by machine because I’m used to using one. If you use a machine, just remember there is lots of twisting and turning of the blazer depending on the patch you get. I sewed mine inside the gold outline with black thread.
I was so happy with the result of my “official” looking Hogwarts Blazer. Every time I wear it out, people tell me “I like your Hogwarts jacket.” Potter fans know their emblem!
And this is me wearing my blazer! :)
